So far we’ve seen the alto clausula as a filler (usually 5-5-5) to achieve four parts. However, the Alto Clausula can take many forms and have many important uses.
When it appears in the bass, the Alto Clausula creates an evaded cadence by resolving 5 to 3.
This bass line can support a double cadence, leading to what is sometimes called Cadenza Altizans
